Tabrez Ahmed rapes and harasses minor Hindu girl of Kotwali, threatens to leak her pictures

Case Summary
Tabrez Ahmed, a 24-year-old resident of Mishrain Mohalla in Ghosia, befriended a 17-year-old Hindu girl from a village in Kotwali on Facebook. Their friendship developed into a romantic relationship, and they eventually had physical relations. However, a dispute arose between them. Despite the fallout, Tabrez continued to harass the girl by sending her messages on WhatsApp. He threatened to leak her explicit pictures. The girl changed her mobile number several times, but Tabrez persisted. Distressed, the girl informed her parents, who then reported the blackmail to the police. Based on the father's complaint, the police arrested Tabrez for charges of rape and molestation of a minor.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
Since the victim in this case is a minor, there is a strong suspicion of grooming involved. Grooming is a phenomenon where Muslim men specifically target minor non-Muslim girls for sexual exploitation, abuse and rape. In this case, the minor was in a consensual relationship with the Muslim man, however, when its a minor, the grooming angle cannot be ruled out. However, since there is no specific evidence of a pattern of victimization of Hindu minors by the perpetrator and no indication from the parents of the minor that she was targeted for her religious identity, this case is being categorized as 'undecided'.
