Muslim men pelt stones on Hindu houses in ‘victory procession’ of Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin in Manglaur; arrested
Case Summary
During a victory procession for Manglaur Congress MLA Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin, five individuals—identified as Irfan, Abrar, Kamil, Shamsad, and another man named Irfan—attacked Hindus and clashed with police in Uttarakhand. The procession, conducted without police permission, turned violent as the perpetrators pelted stones at opposition supporters and Hindu families' homes and shops, and assaulted people with sticks. The conflict escalated to confrontations with police personnel. This prompted Haridwar SSP Pramendra Dobal to order the immediate arrest of all involved to restore peace. Police, forming multiple teams, analyzed video footage and gathered manual inputs to identify the culprits. The arrested individuals were residents of Mohalla Mirdagan and Sarai Aziz in Manglaur, Uttarakhand.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the supporters of Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin during their victory procession attacked supporters of other parties. They also attacked houses and properties of Hindu residents of the area. There is a strong indication that the attacks were religiously motivated given that Hindus were predominantly attacked. However, since there is no statement by residents confirming that they were attacked for their religious identity and no Islamic slogans raised, we are categorizing this case as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it will be added to the hate crime database.
