Mother-daughter duo arrested in Roorkee for large-scale cow slaughtering
Case Summary
A joint police and Gauvansh Sanrakshan Squad team raided Sikraudha village in Roorkee following reports of large-scale cow slaughter. During the raid, police arrested two women, Nasreem and Jainav, who were found trying to hide axes and other slaughtering equipment in a house filled with preserved animal meat and blood. However, when the police attempted to take the women away, a crowd of 35-40 people surrounded the officers, leading to pushing, shoving, and stone-pelting, injuring SI Pradeep. Constable Rahul called for reinforcements, and the crowd dispersed upon their arrival. Inspector Surya Bhushan Negi confirmed that a case has been registered against more than 24 individuals, including the arrested women, under several serious charges, including obstruction of government work. The police are actively searching for the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorized as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
