Amjad, posing as Hindu, lures Hindu girl to steal jewellery and cash and elope with him; FIR filed based on girl's mother’s complaint

Case Summary
A Hindu woman in Dehradun filed a complaint against Amjad, who posed as a Hindu to influence her daughter, Nayana, into stealing money and jewellery and eloping with him. The complaint also names a lawyer, Raisuddin Siddiqui, accused of facilitating court marriages in Love Jihad cases, who was recently released from jail for similar offenses. The incident took place in the Pachhua area, and Mrs Kalpana (name changed), the complainant, reported the theft of gold jewellery and Rs 65,000. The police registered a case under sections 365, 380, and 120B of the IPC. SSP Ajay Singh confirmed that an investigation is underway, and a team has been formed to recover the girl. Additionally, a video circulating on social media shows a Bajrang Dal activist accusing Siddiqui of organising wrongful court marriages and saying that Bajrang Dal members were attacked by armed miscreants while confronting Siddiqui.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
There is a strong suspicion that this case is one where the motivation of the perpetrator was religious in nature. The suspicions arise due to the mother's complaint and the fact that the lawyer involved in the case had been in jail for similar cases, where Hindu women were duped by Muslim men into relationships. However, it seems from the details of the case available that the victim was an adult when the complaint was filed. While the act of stealing jewellery and money is in itself a crime, but to add this case to the hate tracker, there would need to be some evidence of the Muslim man targeting the woman victim based on her religious identity. Since the woman is an adult, there is a strong possibility that the woman eloped with the Muslim man out of her own free will. The allegation that the Muslim man presented himself as a Hindu is also something that the victim herself can confirm. Without the mother providing any concrete evidence, this case does not seem to be one where there is a conclusive indication that it was a religiously motivated hate crime.
