Amir Chaudhari arrested for trapping minor Hindu girl into a love affair and molesting her in Mumbai's Mira Road

Case Summary
On June 25, Mumbai Police arrested an 18-year-old individual identified as Amir Chaudhari Sayed Chaudhari after he trapped a Hindu minor girl into a love affair and molested her twice in the JP North society, Mira Road region. The victim girl had visited the society with a resident friend for a photo shoot where she met the accused. They exchanged Instagram IDs and stayed in touch. The accused frequently called and chatted with her on social media, often asking to meet. In March, he called her near Max Pro gym and attempted to kiss and molest her, but she escaped. On June 24, he again called her to a garden near Seven Square and tried to molest her. The girl managed to call her mother for help, and they subsequently filed a police complaint. Kishor Sant (name changed for security reasons) of the Sakal Hindu Samaj explained the changing demography of the Mira Bhayander region, specifically the Nayanagar area. He stated that the area was previously dominated by Hindus, but in recent years, many Muslims from the Mumbra region and other cities migrated there and asserted their dominance. These new Muslim residents began harassing Hindus, targeting their daughters, disrupting their businesses, and demanding ransom money. Consequently, many Hindus started relocating to other parts of Mumbai and Thane.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
Since the victim in this case is a minor, there is a strong suspicion of grooming involved. Grooming is a phenomenon where Muslim men specifically target minor non-Muslim girls for sexual exploitation, abuse and rape. In this case, the girl was in a consensual relationship with the Muslim perpetrator, however, a major aspect of grooming is also brainwashing minors to be in such relationships, therefore, even in such cases, the aspect of grooming cannot be discounted. However, since there is no specific evidence of a pattern of victimization of Hindu minors by the perpetrator and no indication from the parents of the minor that she was targeted for her religious identity, this case is being categorized as 'undecided'. If more information emerges, it will be added to the hate crime database.
