Alauddin traps Hindu girl posing as Ajay, threatens her to convert to Islam, hurls castiest slurs

Case Summary
In Khatima, Uttarakhand, police arrested Alauddin, a father of two, for raping a Hindu student after deceiving her with a false identity. The girl, a student from the UP-Uttarakhand border area, met Alauddin in 2022 when he introduced himself as Ajay. He lured her into a relationship with promises of marriage and later revealed his true identity. He pressured her to convert to Islam and threatened to make intimate videos viral if she refused, abusing her and her family with casteist slurs. The student reported the abuse, leading to a police case under IPC sections 376, 504, 506, and the SC-ST Act. Alauddin, a resident of Pilibhit, UP, initially evaded arrest but was caught near Kichha Pulbhatta while attempting to flee to Maharashtra. He was subsequently sent to jail.

The second sub-category under which this case has been placed is- Hate speech, under which the sub-category chosen is- Anti-Hindu slurs- In this case, Alauddin deliberately concealed his true identity by posing as Ajay, a name typically associated with the Hindu community, to deceive and trap a Hindu girl. This act of deception was not merely to gain her trust but to manipulate her into a relationship under false pretenses. Once he had established this deceptive relationship, Alauddin escalated the situation by threatening and blackmailing her with intimate pictures, pressuring her to convert to Islam. This coercion to change her religion under duress is a severe violation of her religious freedom and personal autonomy. However, as far as Abrahamic religions are concerned, the micro identities of caste, region, and language are secondary. It is the religious identity that drives the animosity of the perpetrator against the Hindu victim. In this case, while Alauddin hurled caste abuses at the victim and her family, the animosity was driven by his animosity towards Hinduism and Hindus. This series of actions—deception, coercion for religious conversion, and caste-based insults—demonstrates a clear and malicious intent to harm the victim based on her religion and social standing. It reflects deep-seated animosity and bigotry, making this a religiously motivated hate crime.
