Case Summary
In Lucknow, a barber named Mohammad Zaid was arrested for spitting on his hand and using his saliva to massage a Hindu customer's face. The incident, captured on CCTV, went viral on social media on June 15. The victim, Pandit Ashish Kumar, noticed the suspicious behaviour during his visit to the salon on June 11 and requested to see the CCTV footage. Horrified by what he saw, Kumar confronted Zaid, who then threatened him. Kumar filed a complaint at the Sushant Golf City police station. Inspector Anjani Kumar Mishra confirmed that a case was registered, and Zaid was arrested.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
There are several incidents where the Muslim perpetrator purposely spits in the foot or at Hindus owing to their intrinsic religious animosity towards the Hindu faith and those professing it. It is a doctrinal fact that according to Islam, spitting can "ward off Satan" and according to the same religious doctrine, non-Muslims are considered the manifestations of Satan. There is, therefore, a strong suspicion that the perpetrator in this case spit on the Hindu customer owing to religious animosity. However, since no such statement has been made by the police or the victim himself, this case is being categorised as undecided.
