Hindu girl of Jaipur missing with cash and gold chain, family says Firoz Khan blackmailed her into marriage
Case Summary
On June 11, 2024, a Hindu girl went missing in Jaipur, Rajasthan, after leaving for college. Her family reported her disappearance to the Bindiayaka police station, stating that she left home with a gold chain, Rs 20,000 in cash and her brother's scooter. The girl's brother said Firoz Khan was blackmailing her into marriage. The family accused Firoz and his associates of coercing Hindu girls into marriage through blackmail. Following intervention by Hindu organisations, a case was registered. The girl's brother expressed fears of potential attacks by Firoz and his associates on himself and his mother. Firoz Khan reportedly applied for marriage under the Special Marriage Act. DCP West Amit Kumar confirmed that an FIR has been filed and preliminary actions are in progress.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, there is a suspicion of a religiously motivated hate crime since the family of the Hindu woman complained about the Muslim man blackmailing the Hindu woman for marriage. However, firstly there is no indication that the girl was a minor. Had the victim been a minor, her 'consent' for marriage and/or conversion would be null ab initio. If the woman was an adult, there is a strong possibility that she eloped with the man out of her own free will. In that case, even if she converted for marriage, and the conversion was a consensual one, it would not be documented as a hate crime. Because of these possibilities, this case is being documented as 'undecided'. If more information emerges, it will be added to the hate crime database.
