Albab Khan poses as a Hindu and traps mother of 3 children into relationship, forces to convert to Islam and marry, woman attempts suicide
Case Summary
A case emerged in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. A woman consumed poison after her complaints against Albab Khan alias Lucky were ignored. He blackmailed her with videos, pressuring her to change her religion, and beating her after marrying another woman. The 38-year-old woman from Khajrana stated that Albab contacted her through an OLX ad for renting a house, posing as Lucky, but he did not rent the house and began calling her frequently. He claimed to be in the wholesale clothing business and convinced her to buy clothes from him. They started meeting, and Albab took her to a hotel, where he drugged and assaulted her. Albab later blackmailed her with her nude videos and coerced her into a relationship. Sharing her ordeal on WhatsApp, the victim said, “I asked Lucky to delete the videos and photos by entrusting my children to him, to which Lucky said he would marry me. Giving the illusion of marriage, he made several physical relationships. Until then, I did not know about his reality. After gaining trust, Lucky started taking me to religious places. He first took me to some temples. After that, he took me to Ajmer, talking about getting married. Here too, he assured me that he would marry me and live together, separate from the family.” The accused then asked the victim for money if she wanted to marry him. Then to take a loan, the duo went to the bank. In the bank, the victim saw his documents, which bear the name Ablal Khan, including the photo, Aadhar card, and other documents. The truth came out that his name was Ablal Khan and he was a Muslim. When she confronted him, he threatened her with spoiling the life of her teenage daughter and involved his associates to intimidate her. The woman attempted suicide and shared her ordeal on WhatsApp. She recorded a video from MY Hospital demanding action against Albab.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
When Hindu women are in a relationship with non-Hindu men, there are cases where the woman faces pressure/threats/violence to convert and change her religious identity by the non-Hindu man. Such relationships may be consensual with the religious identity of the non-Hindu man known to the victim. Somewhere along the relationship, the non-Hindu man starts pressurizing the Hindu woman to convert. In some of these cases, unable to bear the pressure/threat/violence being mounted by the non-Hindu partner to convert, the Hindu woman commits suicide. In such cases, often, threats are also given to the family members of the Hindu woman. Since such cases are driven by specific religious motivations and against the religious identity of the victim, leading to the woman committing suicide, these cases are categorized as hate crime. The victim in the case was a married Hindu woman. The Muslim man specifically targeted the woman based on her religion as evidenced by the fact that he pretended to be a Hindu and visited Temples to mislead her into believing that he was a Hindu. However, when his identity was revealed, he began pressuring her to marry him as per Islamic rituals and also inflicted physical torture for refusing to accede to his demands of conversion. Lastly what makes this case worthy of being documented as a religiously motivated hate crime is that the Muslim accused threatened to harm the Hindu victim's daughter in order to intimidate her into submitting to his demands. Thirdly, the accused utilized the victim's private photos as a kind of blackmail. Not being able to bear the torture and out of fear of being vilified and maligned in society, the victim attempted suicide. All these components make the case worthy of being documented as a religiously motivated hate crime
