Mukhtar Sulemani arrested after attempting to behead Vishal Gupta over work criticism at a Ghazipur dhaba

Case Summary
In Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, Mukhtar Sulemani attempted to behead Vishal Gupta on May 14, resulting in severe injuries. Vishal's hand was severed as he defended himself. Avinash Choubey of Bajrang Dal demanded strict action against Sulemani. Despite initial support from the dhaba owner Taufiq, Vishal's family bore the medical costs.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the Muslim perpetrator attempted to behead the Hindu victim after he merely criticized his work. The owner of the eatery where both worked was a Muslim - Taufiq as well. Taufiq had supported the Muslim perpetrator who had attempted to behead the Hindu victim and severed his hand. It is evident that mere criticism of work would not result in this level of brutality and neither would it result in the owner of the eatery - a co-religionist of the Muslim perpetrator - extending support to him. There is a strong suspicion in this case that religious animosity and prejudice against Hindus/Hinduism led to the brutality with which the Hindu victim was attacked. However, in the absence of concrete indications, like victim testimony, family testimony etc, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'.
