Minor Hindu girl lured into romantic relationship, held captive for sexual exploitation by Muslim men in Uttar Pradesh
Case Summary
In Khekra, Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, a minor Hindu girl was lured into a romantic relationship and then held hostage by Muslim men. According to media reports, on 29th September 2025, a report was received that the Hindu schoolgirl had been abducted after leaving her home for school. Several Muslim men had taken her into a house and confined her against her will. Neighbours noticed suspicious activity and informed the Khekra police station. Police and locals arrived at the scene, but the door was locked. With assistance, the police gained entry through the roof. Following this, one Muslim man was arrested by the police. During questioning, he refused to disclose any information about the girl. However, a search of the house revealed the abducted girl in a distressed state, hidden inside a wardrobe. The girl's father lodged a kidnapping complaint at Khekra police station and demanded prompt action. The police began interrogating the accused while investigating the involvement of several other individuals named in connection with the case. Station In-charge Prabhakar Kaentura confirmed that a case had been registered based on the victim's father's complaint and that the investigation would be carried out in this case.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a minor Hindu girl was lured and held hostage for sexual exploitation by Muslim men. This case raises serious concerns about possible religious profiling, as there have been numerous instances where Muslim men have targeted Hindu girls, particularly minors, due to deep-seated animosity towards the Hindu community. One could also argue that, if the Muslim perpetrators had simply sought a relationship, a Muslim girl might have been more accessible to them than a Hindu girl. The deliberate targeting of a Hindu girl strongly suggests that religious profiling may have played a role in the crime. However, it is also equally possible that this was a crime of opportunity rather than an instance of a religiously motivated crime. In this case, it is also crucial to emphasise that the victim in this case is a minor. Any supposed “consent” from her is legally invalid under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Minors are immature and cannot make adult decisions, like being in a romantic or sexual relationship with anyone or eloping with them. However, it is important to acknowledge that, at this stage, there is no conclusive evidence confirming a religious motive, and the victim’s family has not made any statements to that effect. As such, this case has been placed in the ‘Undecided’ database. If further information emerges indicating a religious motivation behind the crime, then the case will be reclassified and included in the Hate Crime database of the Hinduphobia Tracker. Disclaimer: The media report in this case states that multiple Muslim men were involved as perpetrators. However, the exact number of accused individuals was not specified. Only one accused has been taken into custody and arrested by the police. Therefore, for the purpose of documentation, a conservative estimate is maintained, and the perpetrator count is recorded as '1'.
