Irfan Siddiqui, jailed for raping a Dalit woman, come out and kill her brother Hiralal Gujrati

Case Summary
Hiralal Gujrati, 38, a father of three who sold birds to support his family, was brutally murdered on January 17, 2022, in Sultanpuri, Delhi by one Irfan. Irfan Siddiqui, and his brother Sanu, were arrested for the crime. Irfan had a history with Hiralal's family, as he had previously raped Hiralal's sister and was imprisoned for the crime. Upon his release from jail, Irfan sought revenge. On the evening of January 17, Hiralal and his friend Narsingh went to Dadia Park in Sultanpuri, where Irfan and Sanu were waiting. Irfan, armed with a knife, and Sanu, holding a pistol, attacked Hiralal. Irfan stabbed Hiralal while Sanu fired at both Hiralal and Narsingh, who tried to intervene. Hiralal was also struck with a brick. Despite being rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Hiralal succumbed to his injuries, while Narsingh survived with bullet wounds. Hiralal's wife revealed that Irfan had continuously threatened them, even during his trial. She expressed deep grief, stating that her husband had considered leaving Delhi out of fear for his family's safety. She demanded justice, urging that Irfan be hanged for ruining their lives.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a woman was raped by Muslim perpetrators. Thereafter, her brother was fatally attacked by the mob to extract revenge for the Muslim raping being sent to prison over the rape of the Hindu woman. IIt has often been seen that Muslim perpetrators target Hindu women owing to intrinsic animosity towards Hindus, specifically Hindu women. In this case, there is a suspicion of the hate leading to not only the rape, but also the attack against the brother, being motivated by community hate and animosity towards those practicing the Hindu faith. When such religious animosity manifests itself, the immediate trigger may not in itself be communal, however, the brutality heaped upon the victims could be motivated by religious animosity.
